Grad School- Am I crazy?

I have just completed my first week of grad school. I have not counted how many weeks there are until I will be finished, it is probably too depressing. I love learning but the deadlines stress me out and take some of the fun away from it. On the other hand I do not know if I would do it if I didn't have those deadlines. There is a scripture about not having to be compelled in all things but to do many things of your own free will and choice. I wonder if me needing to have due dates to get my school work done comes under the compelled category. I think it should be enough that I registered of my own free will and choice.
Anyway, I had to write an essay about if nursing is a profession or an occupation. Personally, I think people get too caught up in semantics. I was raised to take pride in any work I do and to do the very best I can. I see some people who are "professionals" and behave poorly and do bare minimum work. I do not think that is very professional nor do I think they should be considered professional. On the other hand I see people who would not be considered "professional" and behave respectfully to everyone and attend to their work with the utmost care, I would consider them "professional". For example, I sat by a woman on the subway in New York last week. I began talking to her and she informed me she was a messenger. I was a little afraid to ask what a messenger was but intrigued enough to ask her. She politely explained she picked up letters and packages from all over the city and delivered them elsewhere in the city the same day "better than Federal Express". A gentleman, in a suit, (most likely a professional) a few seats down spoke up and told me what a great job her company did for him. She obviously enjoyed her work, was respectful, did it well and provided a great service. Why should she not be considered professional?

Stay tuned....

I have not posted for so long when I got on to post it wouldn't let me at first. I am not sure who "who" is but I really wasn't allowed to post for a bit. I have spent many hours in the car over the last month and have been lost in thought most of it since my driving buddies take most of that time to sleep. Today while driving I started to write down things I felt it will be important to post. Things I don't want to forget. I plan on slowly making my way through the list and I am sure more will be added as I go. I would start tonight but I need to be up early. I volunteer at an apartment complex where the residents have survived homelessness and most of them some pretty severe domestic violence. We have talked all summer about a tea party and tomorrow is the day. I am excited about doing this for them, most of them have never done anything like this. When I first started going there I had the grandiose idea that I would be such a help for them, I realize that I get so much more than I could ever give. It helps keep me humble and most of all grateful for all I have and the life I have been blessed to live.
